Lori Michener, Ph.D., P.T., A.T.C., S.C.S.

Lori MichenerLori Michener is an associate professor in the VCU Department of Physical Therapy. She earned a B.S. in General Studies with a concentration in Athletic Training from Lock Haven University, Pa., as well as a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, and Ph.D. in Orthopedics and Biomechanics from MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Michener is the director of the COOR Laboratory (clinical biomechanics, orthopedics and sports medicine outcomes research) in the VCU Department of Physical Therapy. Her research is focused on the study of mechanisms and the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic and sports injuries of the upper extremity and spine. Specifically, the COOR lab examines the mechanisms underlying the shoulder pathologies using a variety of techniques to include ultrasonography, kinematics and EMG (electromyography). In the clinical setting, Michener and her collaborators examine the ability of tests to diagnosis shoulder disorders and the outcomes of non-surgical and surgical treatment outcomes for patients with shoulder and cervical spine disorders. She’s currently supported with four research grants.
